X-mas - the money machine

I just watched an ad for one of the local malls. I won't be going there this year. I might even write them and let them know that.

It consisted of extolling the wonders and memories of sitting on Santa's knee at the mall. Should have been all sappy happy jolly right? Except all the way through this ad, there was cheesy flashy guy saying DIGITAL PHOTOS OF YOUR CHILD WITH SANTA STARTING AT ONLY $14.99. :eek: Even that is all about money now. *sigh*
 
I avoid malls like Scott Hamilton sleepover parties anyway. Ventured into one about a month ago for the first time in years. I felt very, very old.
 
They charge so much for childhood memories now. I personally would rather see Santa for free and then whip a camera out of my pocket and snap a quick picture of my daughter for her scrapbook.
 
They do that one Saturday at my office building. No charge, no lines, and the lap experience is just as good.
 
15 bucks to sit on some 50 year old guy's lap and have a picture of it? What a scam!
You can probably buy a santa costume and have your kid sit on your lap WITH A PICTURE for a fraction of that price.
 
I think the mall here lets you use your own camera to take a pic of the kiddies sitting on Santa's lap. Or you can pay them to take one for you.

What I don't get is those parents who force their kids to sit on Santa ... you know the ones, where the kids are bawling and red-eyed. That's just plain torture.

its been that way since X-mas was commercialised
 
At the malls here you can sit on his lap without having to have your pic taken (thus it is free) but I don't think you can take your own pics...the sitting is free the pics if you want them must be paid for.
 
...kind of like how theaters won't let you bring in your own drinks, so that you have to pay $3 for a 32-oz. drink that costs 69¢ at the corner Kwik-E-Mart.
