We are mourning the death

...of our microwave. It died sometime in the night....:(
It was one of those inset ones too so replacing it properly would be an arm and a leg so now I have to give up some of my valuable counterspace to a new one.

I am very sorry for your loss...but based on the pictures I've seen counterspace isn't really a rare commodity in that kitchen :p

Absolutely! If its just a microwave alone ... probably a $200 fix ... whereas a countertop model is no more than $30 these days. If its a contractor special combo oven/micro ... kee-rist! ... $700 plus.

wow. didnt realized that. had a counter top model for 10+years now have an inset one now. fortunately it looks relatively new.

:crap: O M G !!!!!!!!!! My Deepest condolences.......I know how hard it is to loose something that dear to you. May you build strength and hopefully overcome this catastrophe. :sadhug:

Counterspace is always at a premium! I am most likely going to move my beer label removing station into the garage or something....:grumpy:

We don't have a microwave as we don't need it for anything. I absolutely refuse to cook anything in it as it tastes funny, and we don't buy frozen stuff, as we prefer fresh. [/fussy]
Sorry for your loss though. May your microwave RIP. ;)

Not necessarily. If it's a standard size, it's probably replaceable for very little or no premium. Shall I take a look at it?

Ot is this one tied in somwhow to the oven?

We used it for reheat things like leftovers or soup and for popcorn.
Ah, I see. I guess that makes sense since cooking for that amount of people will always mean leftovers. There's only two of us, so we can usually gauge quite well how much food we need, so there's no leftovers, and soup just gets heated on our gas ring - heats up really fast. :beardbng:

Steve... Yeah... its tied into the oven. The oven controls are mixed in with the microwave control pad. If one goes... they both go.

Can you "cut" the microwave part and leave the controls?

oh ok. i know what type you have. ours isnt like that. looks like a conventional one thats hung over the stove. completely seperate.

The oven controls are on the same panel as the microwave buttons.

But I meant to cut the part of the microwave that does not contain the controls. It might leave enough room to put a new microwave oven.

Might not look "nice" but it could save some space.

I know what you mean, this one is different. I can see where the microwave comes out and if we take it out the oven controls come with it. It's an all in one hook up deal, you know - for our inconvenience.
