DEBKAfile Exclusive: US Marines are locked in battle with Syrian troops after crossing the border from Iraq into Syria at a point west of al Qaim

November 25, 2005, 12:27 AM (GMT+02:00)

Both sides have suffered casualties. US soldiers crossed over after Damascus was given an ultimatum Thursday, Nov. 24, to hand over a group of senior commanders belonging to Abu Musab al Zarqawi’s al Qaeda force. According to US intelligence, the group had fled to Syria to escape an American attack in Mosul. Syrian border guards opened fire on the American force.

Nope. Especially when the invasions are to a hostile regime which protects the enemy.

This...WWIII???!? Not ruddy likely. This barely qualifies as a 'police action'.

*see Vietnam for definition of 'police action'
**see WWII with a 56million person+ deathcount

Read your history, Bish. The first one started because two families didn't like each other. Big things are made up of small things.

It's been a few years... it's not likely to get much larger than it is.

When I think of a World War...it's the scale that counts. A war involving China...now that'd deserve the title WWIII. If they decide to expand and Europe and the Americas take umbrance...that'd be big enough. India and Pakistan going at it full scale with the rest fo the world taking sides and jumping in...perhaps.

There are dozens of wars going on across the world at any one time, ranging from slow back-burner type of sniping battles to all out military manoevers... none of which have come close to Vietnam. If 'nam wasn't considered WWIII, then neither of the Iraq wars nor Afghanistan should be either.
