Nick Berg

Don't confuse the two issues, Sam. What was done in the prison was beyond procedure, disgusting, and justice needs to be served.

OTOH, what happened to this civilian was worse. Much worse. So bad that any meaningful comparison between the two is impossible. SO, don't try.

nah i understand that part, but this alquida stuff needs to come to an end. This pussyfooting around and trying to be nice is only showing that we are truely getting nowhere.

here is what i dont get, They claim to be doing this in the name of religion.
Even if they followed an eye for an eye take a picture of him naked, to be head a person show they are only fight for their own cause not a just one.

In the statement, the captors refer to the abuse of Iraqi prisoners at the hands of U.S. military personnel, saying the "picture of dishonor and the news of Satanic assault on the people of Islamic men and women" will not be tolerated."Where is the compassion, where is the anger for God's religion, and where is the protection for Muslims' pride in the crusaders' jails?" the man says."We tell you the pride of all Muslim men and women in Abu Ghraib and other jails is worth blood and souls."

So, what's your response? Do you truly mean it when you suggest nuking the region? Gonna kill a lot of innocents that way. Wanna bomb the mosques? Get ready for more of this shit.

In addition, we hold ourselves to be morally above the enemies we are trying to vanquish. In order to hold that philosophy, wholesale slaughter cannot be an option. To give up that philosophy is to be defeated.

We tried taking out a couple of al-quaida friendly governments, and all we see is a lot of discussion about whether or not we should have taken out a different one first, or whether we have any right at all to take out a sovereign government.

So, where do we go? What do we do?

actually what i think we should do is pull ALL troops out of that whole region. Tell the tree huggers here if we want to survive then we use our own resourses and tell to settle there own problems we dont care anymore. But thats not gonna happen either.
We take better care of our detainees feed them cloth them and shit. a couple of bad apples do some naked posing and with the american philosphy of the RIGHT to know, get our brothers killed by inhuman animals.

In the shortest way possible...let them know that from this point forth there are no safe houses. Run into a hospital, a mosque, a kindergarten or your own house...doesn't matter, it's bombed as soon as the plane can get here. NO EXCEPTIONS.

I disagree that this & Abu Ghraib cannot be compared. THIS is torture & abuse & dehumanizing. We made some terrorist feel bad because his pecker is too small.

If renegade american terrorists snatched up some Iraqi businessmen and cut his head off in the name of christianity and american independence do you think america would deserve to be nuked? THERES your proper comparison. Certainly not Abu Ghurab. Wake up. You guys fall right into their traps so easily its amazing. Do you think it was just coincidence that they carefully filmed this and made this available online for the world to see? No they WANT us to be so furious that we are willing to nuke the whole place. Then the al quaeda ultimate dream of global religious wars where all middle eastern countries rebel as one against the west and have a good excuse to crush Israel once and for all can come to fruition. You play right in their hands with this kill em all mentallity. Be furious yes. Be disgusted yes. But be smart. At least be as smart as they are and see through what they are doing. And act accordingly. Do those 4 or 5 hooded men in that video who engaged in this act diserve a bullet to the head without even a split seconds consideration? Sure. And Im guessing each and every one of us here would line up to pull the trigger. But should this be an excuse to increase a cycle of abuse and killing upon others who had nothing to do with this? Well only if you want to see even more attrocities like this. Dont feed the vicious circle I say.

Quit being an apologist. All things are not equal. We hold our own accountable. Do you realize that there has not been one official condemnation of this act by a Muslim nation. Things are not equal.

and is that a reason to be more cruel then? Or is it yet another reason to remind ourselves that we strive to live by a higher standard.

You may wish to re-read what I wrote & remove the parts you added.

first off I read all those kill em all posts you made up above and I would certainly say that qualifies as "cruel" thinking. Secondly, i was referring to your statement about condeming brutalities. You said the middle eastern governments never condemn it. Hinting apparently at the fact that our government has been publically ringing its hands over the whole prisoner abuse thing. Would you not say thats the right thing to do no matter what middle eastern governments do? Its about doing the right thing. Not lowering ourselves to anyone elses level.

You guys fall right into their traps so easily its amazing.

Shall we once again distract the terrorists by giving them exactly what they want? I think Sam's idea works better. The terrorists want us to react with violence and inhumanity. they expect us to. Then they say, "You see, the Americans are evil, join us." I still want to know why we didn't track down every al-qaida member in Afghanistan.

I see massive hypocrasy. What else was I supposed to see? Oh and last time I checked no Iraqis flew any planes into the world trade center. Apparently they were too busy being repressed by Sadam Hussein in places like Abu Gurab...

The Gonz theory of damage control: If we fuck up well too bad. Two wrongs make a right. Until we say otherwise. Class dismissed.

According to Coalition forces 70-90%* of those who went through Abu Ghraib were innocent and had no reason for being there, those charged have reported that they didn't know why some/most of the detainees were there. It wasn't only hostiles who were detained ,the fact that many were released after their ordeals ,confirms they must not have had reason for being there.

Uh, did I miss something? Gonz doesn't HAVE a theory of damage control. [gonz]They're not worthy! They're not worthy![/gonz]

Nah this whole Berg thing will be forgotten by morning.
Question is what will be the next big rallying cry?
Back to the court martial of the innocent American
prison gaurds?

What position will the opposition side take next?
