Fat is all in the mind until it impedes your lifestyle... for some thats not being able to look as good in the fashion clothing they want for others its not being able to walk down the street without breaking into a sweat...
Our walker would probably think that fashion clothes is a rake but fashion clothes probably tries just as hard to lose weight...
I'm more in the fashion clothes camp... To me I am fat... very fat actually.
I'm 5ft 3" tall and weigh in at 11stone 10pound... in your money thats about 164... that makes me a UK 14/16 an American 10/12.
I don't know whether a 10/12 in America is "Big" but a 14/16 in Blighty is treated like a freak by most fashion retailers! Although as a nation we are getting larger there is still the over riding attitude that anyone over a size 12 (US 8) are lazy, smelly and dirty.. I've seen it in people's eyes!
In one well known chain store (Yes thats you TOPSHOP!!!!) I actually have to go up to a sales assistant and ASK for the larger sizes... like
"Hi... do you have the distressed "bunty" jean in a...*lowers volume* 16/30?"
"Yeah! Sure all those sizes are out the back"
"Out the back? In the stock room?"
"Yeah I'll get you one!"
I mean to me.. that is just plain wrong! It's degrading!
I've worked in retail and stock in the stock room is always kept there for a reason... normally they're not as good a sellers etc etc I should be able to rationalise it but all I can think is "These clothes aren't meant for me!" No wonder the larger sizes don't sell! They make their larger clients feel like S**T!!!!
After my wait I normally won't even try them on unless Adrian literally frog marches me to the changing room! I just want out of that size-ist store and away from those size 8 (4) bitches!
I am making a conscious effort though.. I joined WeightWatchers a year ago last week and to date (after a lot of false starts... I'm a comfort eater) I've lost 161/2 pound... not much but it should stay off! I'm 2 pound from my 10% body weight loss and another stone and a half from a "happy weight" which would bring me well into a healthy BMI...
This has gone a little off topic and a bit of a ramble but this is a topic I know alot about...
