I've been wondering, do any other cities have big St. Patrick's Day parades like this? It's something I've always taken for granted, living in NY. There's always the parade, lots of drunk people, controversy over the gay irish groups who want to march, NBC televises it, lots of pictures of politicians standing in front of St. Patrick's Cathedral with Cardinal O'Connor or Cardinal Egan.
They've been marching this parade annually since March 17th, 1762! It's the largest parade in the world. It's a pretty damn good time too. If you can find a place to pee after all that drinking, that is.

From what I've experienced, the farther west you go the less this holiday matters. That is a lot of my reaction in the earlier post. It has little meaning outside of green beer & pinching.

When I went to the parade a few years back, I had green lipstick on which I soon realized was a mistake... I got a ton of drunks coming up to me yelling, "KISS ME I'M IRISH!" Thank God I had the lipstick with me, I just applied it to their lips instead.
