I wouldn't mind being INSIDE my computer case at the moment as it's a nice balmy 34C in there and fuckin' freezing out here!

The wind picked up substantially today and I discovered draughts galore around the door in my bedroom that leads into the garden. I might just as well have the window open. I've got blankets rolled up as draught excluders across the bottom and I've put sticky tape round the edges but it doesn't do much good ~ it's one of those double glazed replacement doors.

I've had the landlord out six times over the last 3 years to try and fix this same problem but the wind STILL whistles through here on a bad day and it's still like Siberia in here even with the central heating turned up! It may be good for the computer but it's not good for me. :(

Looks like I'll just have to get on the phone again in the morning and whinge...:rolleyes:
 
Now that's something I agree. I fucking hate winter. I'd live above 25C forever... And look that temps here only get to 0C on winter...
 
Well, I love winter. I love snowboarding, I love snow, and I love the shit you can do with it. Probably comes from living in a 30+ Celsius [80+ F] for most of my years.

Its been cold here too. One morning it was -28 Celsius, without windchill. Right now it is about -10 I think. Not too bad. Lots of snow though, a lot of it. And its been cloudy for the past two weeks.:)
 
i like the winters...a bit. love to iceskate and stuff like that. i LOVE winters as long as it's sunny and there is no wind.

i freaking HATE those strong ice cold winds :(


love summer too...actually i like all seasons, even fall, only don't like the rain we have here...cold, soft, constant rain...days on end sometimes.
 
Sounds like Vancouver. They get like a drizzle that lasts 9 months, a week sunshine, and another 9-month drizzle. And they scream in panic if they see 1" of snow. :D
 
I prefer winter OUTSIDE!

The windchill is supposed to be -7 to -8 tomorrow, think I'll wear my coat while I'm surfing.

Right now I'm going to make a mug of hot chocolate, put on my hat, scarf and socks and go to bed. I'm too cold to stay up. :(

it's 21 deg C here no matter how cold it is outside...
 
one option, aunty, is to put a curtain rail above the door and hang a heavy curtain there during winter and a light one in summer with the door open for ventilation.

trust me i know how it feels, our place has many draughts and no heating. :(
 
Jer, lots of houses in Britain have no weatherstripping. Single pane steel framed windows. And it's so damp most of the time, you have to open the windows in the middle of winter or risk having huge mold problems.

Then you have the fun of getting up in the morning, sliding out from under the continental quilt where it was nice and toasty to go and try and get the coke fire going coz you forgot to bank it the night before and it effing well went out. Then you have to find the 10P for the gas meter to get it lit. Then you have to wash in cold water anyways because by the time the water tank warms up, you'll be late for work.


Damn, I feel homesick now.

I may have forgot to mention that the summer routine isn't much changed from the winter one. 'Cept that Ma will kill ya for starting the fire unless it's wash day.
 
metal windows? you got it posh where you was. we only got genuine victorian sash windows, single pane and with traditional slippage to bring authentic draughting.

I would have prefered permanant spring or autumn. :)

Done that, it just waves at me in the wind....:(

It's supposed to be one of those double-glazed replacement doors that are sealed around the edges, but it's not. Originally there was no door, it was put in with a ramp for wheelchair access into the garden. It also creates a "coldfront" in that area so I have a serious condensation problem in my bedroom.

The council obviously had it fitted by the cheapest cowboys going so it's shoddy workmanship, hence the problems. Their guy keeps coming to seal it but after a few months of opening and closing we're back to square one again. I suppose the solution would be not to use it but that defeats the object of having a door in the first place since we would then have to go out of the front door and through the side door to get to the garden, which means I couldn't leave Katie out there alone in case she decided to wander off....

I have gas central heating but competing against the siberian wind that is now whistling through my bedroom is a lost cause, I have to keep the door shut to keep the rest of the flat/apartment warm... It also leaks at the bottom when It rains hard enough. :(

BTW Prof, we have card meters now for both gas and electricity (Too many cash meters getting turned over by crooks) with a £5 emergency button, so you'd have to nip done the post office to load it with money if you completely ran out of gas.

But I'm on quarterly billing and just to piss you off even more, I get instant hot water from my boiler in the kitchen so I never wash in cold water, though I often did when I was a nurse in hospital accomodation. I'm truely glad those days are over.... :)
 
Just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about, this is a rough sketch of the layout of my flat/apartment. all the windows are replacement double glazing except my front door ~ that was intelligent of the council.... now they only have to repaint that every couple of years :rolleyes:
