eeep - blood in sputum - what's wrong?

I'm in the process of making a doc's appt but I am a little worried in the meantime :- I have been coughing up a LOT of phlegm over the past week, no big, I think, just a little cold, I'll just take some cough medicine for a chesty cough. Well, this morning I noticed that the sputum contains blood, so I'm off to the docs asap. I'm thinking it's probably just a chest infection (had 2 so far this year), but I don't remember coughing up blood before.

How hard-core have the coughs been?

Pretty hardcore. ie not getting sleep hardcore. Tonks is prolly right, I've been coughing my lungs out so it's probably that. I'll stop worrying now.

Update: doc says its likely a chest infection (again). Have meds (again). Haven't got ebola (this time). Yay.

Blood most likely came from your throat, not from your lungs.

Anyway, I'm glad the diagnosis was favourable.
