About digital cable

Just got digital cable service for the first tiime for $55+$5 per extra box. Anyone know anything about digital cable? Is it easy to hack? And what about these cable boxes i've been seeing in second hand stores? Will they work if i have the service or does it have to be a box from my provider?

Like satelite TV hooked up to a phone line, digital cable is "seen" by the cable company. If you get a compatible box, they still have to activate the digital part. Go with theirs or better yet, get satelite.

I'm sure there are hacks available...when isn't there
