A Pope with a message

It's time to take a stand.

The Roman Catholic Church is preparing to bar homosexuals from becoming priests even if they are celibate in what could prove to be a defining act of Benedict XVI's papacy.

An "instruction" spelling out the policy has been drafted by the Congregation for Catholic Education and Seminaries.

I can see it strengthening the Anglicans, the United, and other protestant churches...but somehow, not the RCs.

One of the reasons I've generally supported the Jews & the Catholics is they don't change the rules as the wind blows. The book says it & they tend to use that basis.

The Orthodox Jews, maybe..but the RC? Nope. Plenty of changes there and plenty of 'interpretation'. Lots of dropped 'ideals' too.

The Catholics have had changes. The Anglicans (as an example) have had more in a year than all the Popes ideas combined.

Nah...there's only one...and it's not even changed yet, but on hiatus until 2007.

"blessing of same-sex unions" the last big change was regarding the lectionary and the NSRV. Before that was 'women as clergy'.

It may also alleviate some of the perceived homosexual/pedophile links, allowing people back into the flock.

It's exasperating it, not alleviating it. As if removing homosexual priests will put a stop to pedophiliac priests.

Want to increase the number of catholics going to church again?
Allow divorced people to remarry within their faith. I can't count how many Catholics who are divorced are walking into Anglican churches to get married before the eyes of God and familiy...and then stay there...because they're not welcome back. 10 couples this year alone in my church.

This may come as a really big suprise to you, but there's a reason they're not allowed to get married again ... before the eyes of God.

Yup...organized religion, as opposed to the Bible.

Wrong again. Y'know, most people would get tired of being wrong, but you've really got dedication, I'll give you that.

It has to do with a certain little thing called a vow. Now, I know most people today don't actually know what that is, so I'll clarify. It's a promise. It's saying you'll do something, and actually doing it. Well, last time they were at the alter, they made a vow. "till death do us part" or something of that nature. Well, as soon as one of them's dead, the "organized religion" has no difficulty letting them get married again. None at all.

Then there's that silly little thing called God. Perhaps you didn't know, but a marriage vow isn't between two people. That would be a civil marriage. A religious marriage is between the two people .... and God. And last time I checked, most divorcees don't consult Him before breaking up. And before you start, yes, there is a way to consult Him. It has to do with His representative on earth, a.k.a. the Pope. You want a divorce in the RC church, you petition the Pope. He checks with God. And if God tells him it's Ok, you're divorce is granted. And believe it or not, divorces are sometimes actually granted.

But then, so few people today actually give a damn about promises ....

Interestingly (or perhaps not so much) I have no use for religion and no faith in god but I keep my promises. Even the hard ones.

They don't particularly need to go hand in hand. I'd rather deal with an honest man than a religious one who's honesty is in question.

You are a member of the vanishingly small group of non-atheists who actually believe that.
