Hardly.
Like I said..I cross over weekly, and have been doing so during the summers for well over a decade. I have NEVER received an 'entry document'.
You might check thew rules. Even for the day, you are suppose to have your 'papers' with you in the US. (Canuki ID)

I may be wrong....

For us, US Citizens. We now need to have a US Passport to return from a day in Tijuana.

I use my passport to cross over, but I'll be damned if I carry it into the river with me to fish..or on hikes, or shopping for that matter. The Border patrol doesn't provide me with anything when we cross. Mind you, I'm not there to work. They do have a digital record of my crossing (PP#, license plate#), which I'm assuming is linked with the cops so even without papers on me, I can prove that I crossed legally.

The only time I get stopped on the south side of the 49th is when they want to see my fishing license if I'm all decked out in my gear.*

*On a side note, the damned thing nearly doubled in price from last year. Went from $40US to $70US for an out of state license.

so what? would you EVER leave the US without a passport? i sure as hell wouldn't.

i've had to carry one for several years now flying to + from toronto. it's really not a big deal.

passports are not very bulky or heavy. my guess is that they would only be unduly burdensome to an ant. but maybe not, because ants can lift many times their body weight.

I do it all the time...always have except for one time in Columbia.

i got refused entry into canada once because my associate forgot HER passport. once she'd told the border guy that she'd been born in columbia, it was a no go.

so is your columbia story amusing? if so, please do tell.

Arizona bill 1070 will never see the light of day.

The Columbia story is no doubt classified.

Arizona bill 1070 will destroy America

Deprived hard working ‘Latino’ families will be crushed if this law is enforced.
(they are not illegal aliens)

Amreica would fail without 'hard working ‘Latino’ families'!

the wise Latina has spoken
