Not sure if its more gimmick or good idea?

My understanding is that they make copying songs off the vinyl to a computer a lot easier than hooking a magnetic cartridge into a preamp and then into a sound card, but the sound quality, while decent, isn't as good as a normal good quality turntable with a good quality cartridge and stylus.

My dad has a similar one and says it works pretty well.
