You athiests can stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

if you don't have any faith then what is there to attack? ?(

getting back to the subject. the guy who raised the issue is a jerk from dragging his daughter into the public spotlight in such a controversial issue. he's a putz.

It wouldn't matter if every damn person in the US was a Primitive Baptist, the government should still be neutral. Try thinking in principles for a change.

Funny. The US was founded how many years ago? The oath was good enough for all that time. Are they gonna demand that 'In God we trust" be taken off the money too? When is the line to be drawn?

man theres already 4 threads on this. s4 why do you attack atheists and what they believe? also i do agree the guy is an asshole for bringing his daughter into it and he needs to realise that we dont need to stand for the pledge if we dont want to. ards you said it beautifully. the gov't needs to be neutral.

Nope it was not good enough for all that time. The words "Under God" were not originally in the pledge (didn't that get covered already?). Neither was "In God we trust" originally on all money. Both were added in the 1950's.

Not only that, but the pledge wasn't even written until 1893. I'll say again what I said in the last thread on this:

I see two issues:

1) The government must remain secular and neutral on matters of religion. If there is any reason for the government to have a pledge of allegiance in the first place, then it should make no mention of God.

2) The government should not be in the business of educating children. For the same reason that the government must be neutral with respect to religion, it must also be neutral with respect to what constitutes a proper education, what things will be taught as the truth, etc. All education, therefore, should be privately run. If, in that context, a school wants the children to recite the pledge of allegiance with "under God" in it, or the Lord's Prayer, or even Heil Hitler, that's between the owners of the school and the parents of the children. As far as I know, private schools can still recite the pledge any way they like. The goal, then, should be to make all schools private schools so that everyone will have the same freedom.

This is the United States of America that I am writing this from.

First, I can make as many threads as I want about it. In addition, I created this thread because the link is an update on the matter. The mother of the child is now involved, and it adds a new twist on the situation.

Second, since this is the USA that I am writing this from that means that I can tell people what I think of their faith or lack thereof, and nobody has a right to shut me up about it.

Third, my answer to the person who says we need to discuss principles and keep everything by the book then I say this. You need to live your life as a perfect example of never deviating from anything other than being logical. Don't even think of falling in love or getting married because those things are not logical. Love has no logic. You want to stick to the by the book example you want set by others then try doing it yourself. Don't spit on the sidewalk. Never cuss or swear. You have to have everything perfect to fit your needs. Always be logical and never, ever never do anything that is not perfect. I have news for you. This world is fucked up. Nothing is perfect and you can't have everything your own way. I have just a much right to want Under God left in as you want it out, and 99% of American agrees with me.

I know I'm a little late here ... but I just got back and here's my thoughts on this matter.

I had to say this Pledge throughout my elementary years ... and you know what ... I had no idea what I was saying at the time. It doesn't mean anything to kids ... they're just rambling a bunch of memorized words with no clue as to its meaning.

That's how I feel about it anyway. I'm not an atheist, but I wouldn't want my kids to have to memorize this either, it's pointless if it's meaningless.

it doesn't start meaning anything to you until you get older. i once had my patriotism questioned by Uncle Sam and it hurt my feelings badly. i've been a good American and never did anything to deserve being shit on.

by saying what you did you realise that means i can attack your faith. also i said theres 4 on this cause its more of a suprise than anything. i didnt say you couldnt post anymore im syaing that theres more threads on this than any of the others and it has become quite jaded. the mother was involved for a while before you posted it. also going back to the statement that you can say what you want to, well so can anyone else for that matter. also we have the right NOT to say something such as under god. and may i ask why you patriotism was questioned? i mean no american unless helping another country that doesnt like the US should be questioned but anyone who loves this country is a patriot.

This is a bunch of meaningless rambling. The fact is there is supposed to be a seperation of church and state.
