Germany & France to the rescue

It seems that France & Germany have decided to take the Iraq situation on themselves to solve. They are calling for more inspectors & UN peacekeeper forces to swarm Iraq to avoid war. The peacekeepers will assure that saddam doesn't start a war & the increased number of inspectors will verify he's disarming. All of this without consulting the US. They thought it up all by themselves.

A few questions:

Who is gonna supply the troops?

Are they(the peacekeepers) willing to stop terrorist activities whle they're there?

Most importantly-have they ever heard of Somalia?
 
Actually i think they stole that idea from Jimmy Carter. His idea was to just have full time inspectors all across the country indefinitely. Which would theoretically keep Saddam from ever getting anything done. However that wouldn't work either. Saddam would eventually prevent them from doing their jobs.
 
if they are prepared to explore any further non-military avenues then fair play to them. this headlong race for military action is one of the main reasons i view the situation a little dubiously, all seems a bit keen.

The only way Saddam is going to abide by the rules is if he thinks we're dead serious. It's obvious that nothing short of a military threat will work. The only way to make it work is to make it look real. Looks pretty real doesn't it? Maybe he'll play ball yet. If not then there is nothing that will.
 
then leave the troops built up nearby, but if war is the last resort then other options must be worth consideration.
 
and until the last 4 months no-one has appeared to care less. now all of a sudden its imperative hes stopped right now this minute.
 
Ask SLick Willie about that. He had war preparations in 1998 but his dick got in the way.
 
France and Germany? Gah! French leadership has been the most ass-backwards leadership in the civilized world over the past several decades. The Germans are supplying Iraq with materials that are most likely being used for development of WMD. Both benefit from their current deals with Iraq, especially in the matter of oil.

It is in their interests to keep the status quo in Iraq. And they accuse the US of being self-serving? I think France in particular is walking a very fine line right now, but I expect both them and Russia to step back in line when the boms start dropping.

That's a joke, right? Jesus Christ, talk about countries looking out for their own interests and no one else's. France and Germany are the current poster children for political neanderthalism.
 
Exactly. That and the fact that we just can't afford(in many respects) to keep a hundred thousand or more troops stationed in the area indefinetely and we dare not move them out with any assumption that they'll be let back that part of the world any time this century.
