Here are just some of the most egregious cuts:

  • $225 billion cut from Medicaid, the last-resort health insurance program for the very poor.
  • $200 billion cut from Medicare, the health care safety net for the elderly and the disabled.
  • $25 billion cut from the Centers for Disease Control
  • $6.7 billion cut from school lunches for poor children
  • $7.5 billion cut from programs to fight global AIDS
  • $5.5 billion to eliminate all funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
  • $3.6 billion cut to eliminate the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities
  • $8.5 billion cut to eliminate all subsidized loans to graduate students.
  • $2.5 billion cut from Amtrak
  • $2.5 billion to eliminate the Hydrogen Fuel Initiative
  • $417 million cut to eliminate the Minority Business Development Agency
  • $4.8 billion cut to eliminate all funding for the Safe and Drug-Free schools program
A cutting we will go

Very nicely biased, Marc. Now, perhaps you'd like to post the rest of the information. You know, the part that doesn't say what you want. Like that the Medicare cuts are in reponse to the prescription drug act.

If you wanna post shit from moveon, I'll find a proper source to counter it with. I promise, it'll be every bit as mainstream and unbiased.

And any of these issues have direct effect on you in precisely what way again?
None whatsoever...
OK. Just a wee bit since our economy is so tied into yours that it might as well be the same one. Maybe because I've got friends who are Americans and who might be affected by this.

I'm posting it for the same reason that I would post about hurricane Rita, or the Tsunami, or a bombing in Iraq or the death of Maxwell Smart. It's news.

Doesn't have to effect me in any way. If it affects you and you can make use of the information, then it's post-worthy, no?

That WOuld directly affect me to the tune of about $200/mo.
BUT
the other part they don't want you to know about is that program was only
temp to start with until you enroll in a supplemental insurance type program
with even greater benefits, but is more closely monitored to weed out the scammers.
Everyone has until May to get switched over. That's plenty of time. I'll
probably get switched over this week.

Budget cuts are more often threats for political leverage than anything else. Last minute, everybody's pet pork barrel gets saved.

BTW
$225 billion cut from Medicaid, the last-resort health insurance program for the very poor.

I don't know why that's even in there. It's a state thing, not fed.

Funny...I don't see you presenting both sides of any issue 99% of the time. Lead by example, John, or stop whining.

Whenever I "quote" an article, I post the entire article, not just the bits that fit my "whine of the day".

Try again, bud.

S'ok Cat... I posted from where I found it. In this case, it happened to be moveon.org

It was a straight link from yahoo.news originally, but didn't have a link to the original document...but the moveon link did.

Sorry Prof... but I seriously doubt that the Members would appreciate me posting a 24 page document in its entirety (even if I could). The link has it all, in case you want to read it.

When that's the case, I post the link and my opinion. I seldom post only part, and definitely don't post just the bits that say what I want, completely out of context, and without the justifying accompanying text (which would have, and did, make your entire post pointless)

shall I demonstrate?

headline: Cancel NASA's New Moon/Mars Initiative *Gasp**horror*

justifying text : In 2004, the President announced a new initiative to explore the Moon and Mars with the goal of returning humans to the Moon by 2020. NASA currently intends to use the savings from phasing out the space shuttle in 2012 to fund this program. Savings: $44 billion over ten years ($11.5 billion over five years)*oh, well that's alright then*

You've demonstrated journalistic deception at it's worst, Bish. Stop trying to shift the subject to me, when you're caught.

I'd be trimming 10 times as much.
Me too man, meee too.
I'd proposed a whole new budget. I didn't vote the this pres. on his budget program anyway. I just didn't see another viable choice.

Pardon me...I thought that I was on OTC. Seems that I'm on AllProfCentral.com instead...where you'd better post exactly like prof or else.

I'm not a journalist, I didn't write the piece..I just quoted it. Someone else interpreted the document. Perhaps you should take it up with them?

T'isn't my job to correct them. It's an interesting extrapolation. I posted it. I posted the link. Point finale.

It's a post. Deal with it or ignore it.

Go play 'bait the bear' with someone else, Prof. Consider yourself 'ignored'.
