yeah, we are talking about a starter solenoid, but apparently it isn't...are you positive cuz they say that with most new-ish cars the solenoid isn't attached to the starter.....
 
May not have to. There are two contacts that may just need cleaning...I'm not sure whether its more practical to replace the solenoid rather than the whole unit. I'd guess it easier and better to replace the unit (complete starter/solenoid assy)
 
Most modern starters are sold with the solenoid attached, as one piece. Mostly because it's nearly impossible to remove a working solenoid from a deceases starter. Is the starter mounted underneath? My old Mirage had the damn thing mounted on top of the tranny, right under the carb. Talk about a bitch to fix.

prof, yes it is mounted underneath. so it will be a bitch to fix...good thing i don't have to do it, huh?
