Wife wants one,so if any of you have experience good/bad.

Media???-HD(memory card) ,DV,DVD

Which brand???-Sony ,JVC,Canon etc...

Price range- $500Cdn +/- $200Cdn

would like to stay away from AVCHD (is it only Sony that uses it)

I've searched for forums and reviews,but most seem outdated i.e. cameras they recommend aren't available anymore.

i'd look for a panasonic with the 3CCD feature. most of the ones we use are PV-GC-something models (we've probably got around 8-10 at this point at work). they are hands down the best camera until you get into the so-called "prosumer" $1800+ cameras. not so bad for relatively low light, and very compact. the one with the bigger "throats" (lenses) are a little better still. i think the last one i bought was 5-600 bux.

yes and so does her Fujifilm Digicam,but who am I to question the need/want to buy more toys.
