What's yer speed?

what do i win?

Speakeasy's speed test usually gets me just over 5000. It's advertised as 6-meg DSL.

In exchange for getting a place where the landlord actually pays the mortgage, I had to go with slower DSL because the faster DSL isn't available in my neighborhood. :(

And since Vancouver seemed to have the best server...

They told me it would be 3-meg DSL.

I'm a cable internet customer rated for 7m/512k, so I'm pretty impressed it got that close. I'm in a neighborhood full of college students, I am surprised they're not all on it downloading their games and pr0n.

(Hell, I am...)

As for FIOS:

Does that REALLY mean "not yet" or did they change the "y'ain't gettin nothin, now go on and get outta here" message to something that doesn't quite dash your hopes as much?

I signed up to be notified when it came to my old neighborhood and haven't heard anything in a year. The first time I checked, it said Congrats! Verizon is in your area. They meant DSL, not Fios and if I hadn't caught that who knows, I might have bought the wrong thing. Sneaky.

Now, I hear that since they partnered with DirectTV that they do the same thing but instead of a Fios or DSL guy showing up, a DirectTV guy shows up with a dish. So not cool. (this I heard from my friend's boyfriend who is a DirectTV installer)
