View Full Version : ...Shame on HWC...

This is getting ridiculous.
And don't get me started with "I understand this or that..."
Toolbox has a point. That site only tolerates 100% computer discussion or LOCKO! ;)
That's why this site was made.
sb is right, it is hardware central, not a people finding service.
no offence to the guy, and i am sure he is genuinely concerned, but the uk has 55million people, there are potentially thousands of mark dinsdale's. what does he want us to do - get them all to ring him?

This would be the last site I'd ask a serious question. It is ridiculous as well. Blaaah blaaah blaaah and pre-adolescent kitty porn.
Ok...the guy probably commited suicide. Who cares anyway ?
We talk about pointless shit here because we can. You can still ask a serious question and have serious discussions here. Go look at the "Physics" thread, that's serious stuff. :D
you posted a serious question, we posted serious replies. as sb said, because we can talk about anyhting means anything goes. if you look at the subjects in the real world forum i think you'll find mainly serious discussion.
this guy may well have comitted suicide, it is sad if he has but still does not change the rules at hwc. be thankful that toolbox locked it and did not delete it.
I pretty much agree, I mean if they let one start then they get complaints like "how come you locked mine and not his" etc etc.
Rules are rules I guess.
It is possible that whole story was made up.

Why did he ask at HWC instead of here, JJR512, Xi, or, even, OCN?

Perhaps he should have phrased it as a comp question. I'm looking for this comp tech guru who live in England who has solved my (whatever problem) in the past. (fleshed out fake problem explanation). If anyone knows where my buddy is... let me know.

I support Toolbox 100%. Like ris said, HWC is not a people finding service... and rules are rules. If you don't enforce the rules as they were written, and allow a little bend here, where does the bending stop?
Maybe the guy did kill himself... people kill themselves everyday. When I was in Marine Corps boot camp, a guy in my sister platoon hung himself. Another guy jumped off the repelling tower and killed himself. Another guy unsuccessfully attempted suicide by slitting his wrists. Another guy took 30 tetracycline pills cause he wanted to die (obviously that guy wasn't too bright. Tetracycline is just an antibiotic).
I never met the two that succeeded in their suicides, but the other two I did after their failed attempts. While I am sympathetic, I have my own family that requires my emotional support. I can't afford to go giving out my heart to the family and friends of every single person that kills themselves.
Consider this:
Years ago, Utah got a reputation among the homeless community that we were good to homeless people. Next thing you know, Utah is getting overcrowded with homeless people. While we all feel sorry for them (thus the reason for our previous reputation), last I checked Jesus wasn't out here breaking a single loaf of bread to feed huge crowds. Even Jesus had to pick and choose... otherwise you spread yourself too thin.
There are places where people can go to find out whether a "friend" has died or not. A computer hardware forum is not one of them.

I support Toolbox's decision also.
And, when I was in Marine Corps bootcamp, (in MRP by the way:( ), there was a guy in there who jumped off the 2nd story of the barracks. How smart is that? He broke his neck/back and got sent home on a medical.

MRP?! Am I glad I never went there! After I got bronchitis, my doctor threatened to send me there because I wasn't drinking the quart of water every hour that he had prescribed. After that threat, I spent alot of time becoming friends with the pissers.
I talked to a guy that spent 9 freakin' months in MRP. They offered to send him home multiple times and he kept refusing. Talk about motivation!
What exactly is MRP? :confuse3:

Yeah, I was there for 3 months with a stress fracture to my left tibia. Hell on earth! . I did not turn down the offer they gave me to go home;).
Stu is rite and so is toolbox, when things were wild at hwc I tried to help a kid who couldn't handle his situation at home, this wasn't the place to do that and believe the post was later locked although I don't remember what came of it but I gave him some good advice. But then the site would turn into dear diary or something and nobody would get decent help. Have to stay focused there here we can get unfocused.:)
Yeah, you can't goto a message board thats specificly for computer related post's etc, and start talking about your problems. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm all for helping people and have simpathy etc, it's just HWC is not the place for it.

ditto
If someone wants to have some dear diary threads, this is the place to do it. We love that kind of stuff here. That's why this board exists so that people can say things they can't say at their computer boards...within reason of course. :)

Dear diary...
Today I made a spontaneous change to my spontaneous plans...
Dear Diary,
Sorry for shoving that bookmark in your crack, yet again.
MuFu.
BTW has anybody had spontaneous combustions while sitting in front of there computers? Don't worry you can tell the truth here.:D
I had a brand new KDS 17" XF-70 monitor blow out about three weeks ago while I was on the web. It was a replacement for the first one which I had a month that had quit turning on and off properly. I had this replacement for 1 day and had used it maybe 5-6 hours total.
I loved that monitor. It had beautiful graphics. I was really disappointed. :(

Did it blow out, or blow up? That could cause some minor pain... ;)
I was in a golf cart once when a battery exploded. Sounded like a 12 ga. shot gun, and it lifted us off the seat an inch or so... made my ass sore. :D I'm lucky I didn't ruin my shorts. :)
i have never spontaneusly combusted while at my computer, a couple of times on the couch, but never here. :D
There was a bright flash on the screen and then it began blinking on and off for a few seconds. I heard a loud noise, and the screen went blank. It might have started smoking if I had left it plugged in long enough.

Hmm... yeah, I would probably have pissed on myself anyway. Or ducked, or something. :D
I actually started thinking about crying for a minute. Instead, I just grabbed the box plus the receipt and began packing it up.

lol, large dose of reality there. I have a friend that always amuses me by his completel lack of emotion. I was riding with him when he slid off the road in the rain, screwed up his front tire. He just said "suck," called his boss, said he'd be a little late for work, got out, and started walking to work... in the rain.
It took me a minute to realize that he didn't intend to do anything about the truck at the moment. He just left it there, and came back for it after work. I walked with him in the rain (was only another two or three miles). He never even mentioned the truck... just talked about the usual stuff. :)
are you sure he's human??? :D

well, not completely sure. I think his life mantra is "life sucks, then you die." Everything bad that happens to him he seems to have expected it already. At least he's never dissapointed by anything. :D
lol :D
best people to have around you, the utterly morose, they remind you that however bad you feel, you'll never sound as bad as them :D
