I honestly had no idea that Venezuela was on the edge of a civil war. Now that theyve kicked out their weenie semi dictator, the price of petrol has dropped nicely.

Whoops... my first mistake. The quote button is at the top of a post. I meant to tag Les' line above the one of Justins that I used.

well ... I should say stabilized. It had a pretty bad run up over the last 2 weeks, but gave back a few cents in recent days.

I truly had no idea either. It was a total mistake when I said Venezuela. :) But heck maybe I've acquired some new psychic powers! That would be cool! :D

I get little creepy dejavu premonitions like that from time to time as well.

unclehobart, do you really call it petrol? Who'da thunk it?

Justintime
4/16/02, 12:11am

i always call it petrol :)

Leslie
4/16/02, 12:14am
Well, I figured that, but did you think that *shhh, whisper "americans"* would call it petrol? I'dve thought it would've been gas. Hmm, live and learn :D

unclehobart
4/16/02, 12:15am
I'm the only yank talking to a pack of Canadians and English. I am just modifying my linguistics to suit the audience at hand. I can say 'gas' per normal ... but someone might think I was speaking of a burp or a methane emission.

Justintime
4/16/02, 12:17am

MitchSchaft

what's petrol?;)

unclehobart
4/16/02, 12:42am
Petrol is that low octane gas that they dish out in lousy 1/4 gallon increments.

Isn't it more expensive than gasoline?

:P

MitchSchaft
4/16/02, 01:31am
gas rules

nodnod
4/16/02, 01:49am
Gas is 75.9 cents a litre here (Nova Scotia, Canada). I guess americans don't now what a litre is though. A litre is ummmm... uhhhh... well there are 3.785 litres in a gallon :D

MitchSchaft
4/16/02, 02:08am
Gas is $1.30 right now. I'm not a newbie anymore

nodnod
4/16/02, 02:52am
1.30 a gallon? that would work out to 34.3 cents a litre which is still cheaper than here by about 12 cents american a litre.

4/16/02, 02:58am
:( ?( :P :D :o ?( :o  :headbang:  X( 8) ;) 8) :P  nuke em, nuke em all ;). Lets take over the fields, .50 a gallon, but restrict travel ;) ;) :headbang:  ;) X( :) :(

here we're about 65c, fairly steady. :( I still have oil heat though so I'm deeply concerned now with the Middle East stuff

I stopped watching the news. How is Argentina doing now, unc? ;)

Gato_Solo
4/16/02, 11:27am
Argentina is still a question mark. Venezuela, otoh, has their tinpot despot back after a 5 day hide-out he took. As a result, oil prices surged again, and, soon, the price of gasoline will rise again as well. Perhaps the US should start buying more oil from Mexico...

Leslie
4/16/02, 11:33am
Isn't that what the ghastly Alaska Pipeline Project is for? More self sufficiency? I'm not clear on what the additional oil is for, I thought for US use, could've been for sale.

I think I'll have to buy a woodstove. :(

Hold on... are you converting between US and Canadian currency? Last I knew, Canadian petrol cost was only a shade higher than the US average.

Justintime
4/16/02, 01:55pm
thats what i thought too.

Don't know about Canadian, but when I was in the UK it was something like $4/gallon (US equivalent).

unclehobart
4/16/02, 03:25pm
65cdn cents/liter translates to 1.59US per gallon.

Jebus... you guys are post whores.

Leslie
4/17/02, 10:29am
We're not post whores, this is a reasonable discussion about the angst presently suffered by Argentina and Venezuela, and the effect of this on world gas/petrol prices. The most recent posts here were for clarification purposes, as the language barrier is sometimes difficult to overcome between Canada, Britain and the US. :D ;)

So any updates on Argentina and Venezuela? I'm too lazy to Google it. Regular unleaded is hovering around US$2.20-$2.25 a gallon in my area.
