*forgot that Americans don't know Nanimo*

Something along these (http://www.cooks.com/rec/doc/0,1810,158162-235196,00.html) lines, although there are many variations (including a peanut butter filling which is meh and a mint one which is to DIE for)

They look like...http://www.mmmeatshops.com/en/images/productCat/products/602.jpg

nix, i might consider those for the girls' christmas parties at school. i couldn't make them and keep them at home. i'd eat whatever the girl's didn't and it wouldn't be fair to rob.

now I need Nanaimo Bars. :(

tonksy

so how important are the almonda in the crust? because the school does not allow nuts due to allergies.

Base
2 squares (oz.) semi-sweet chocolate
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 cup coconut
1/2 cup softened butter
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg

Filling
1/4 cup butter, softened
3 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons instant vanilla pudding
2 cups confectioners (powdered) sugar

Glaze
4 squares (oz.) semi-sweet chocolate
1 tablespoon butter
Procedure:

Base
Combine ingredients. Press into 9 inch square cake pan. Chill.

Filling
Combine butter, milk, and custard powder. Blend in confectioner's sugar. Spread over base. Chill at least 15 minutes.

Glaze
Partially melt chocolate and butter. Remove from heat and stir until melted. Spread over custard layer. Chill.
Store in refrigerator, covered, up to 1 month. Makes 24 bars.

Serve chilled. They're rich, so small portions may be appropriate. *cough*bullshit*cough*

I always found the almond ones yukky. I would wager that if you dumped in a bit more coconut you could forgo the nuts, it's more of a texture than a taste thing.

you don't suppose cocoanut is actually considered a nut...do you?

Leslie

I would hope not :eek6:

It doesn't matter anyway, this tray is yours. Nanaimo is wasted on children :D

The ones for home are the most important :)

I sent a card to my mom on the same day...and while Chris has gotten his that was sent at the same time I don't think my mom has gotten hers. I tried to hint without giving it away by being like "So, any mail for me this week?" hoping if she forgot to mention that she got the card FROM me that would jog her memory but no dice...they were sent on Monday and within country is suppose to be 2-3 business days...hopefully next week yours will arrive.

I only like them in very small amounts. Otherwise I am not a peanut butter fan at all really.

Peanut butter by itself is. Peanut butter combined with chocolate, however... *boing*

Strange. We had plenty of nuts in my school. In fact, most of my graduating class...

I don't recall ever eating Nanaimo bars...though I may have and forgotten all about it in the sugar-rush :D

Pecan or sugar-pie Mmmmmmmm

My family's Christmas time snack is Crème Opéra (opera cream...don't ask, it doesn't make sense to me either)

It's a combination of whipping cream and jello, with extra jellatin to thicken it up and canned-mixed fruits suspended in the middle. It's the special treat from my great-Aunt Jocelyn... off of whom I finally got the recipie after close to 15 years of asking. she gave it to me once I introduced her to my son, her great-grand-nephew. :D

i have a similar salad that is a family favorite, especially with the kids. it goes like this:
2 cans fruit cocktail, drained (i like the kind with extra cherries)
1/2 a thing of cool whip
1/2 a bag of mini marshmallows
mix and chill.

Strangely enough, there was a tin of said cookies in the freezer of the beer fridge you guys sat by all day. They were probably a wee bit freezer stale by then though.

No cookies planned this year so far as I know.

you must, without you, tomatos will stay on the vine, and grow to such proportions that they will block out the sun and creat a new ice age, destroying cicilivation as we know it.

help us inky, you are our only hope.

the fact that you spread such horrible puns and jokes is the thin line between continued existance, and extintion...in fact the tomatos will grow so much they shall pull the earth out of orbit, and destroy it...and you know what they say about destroying the world....

destroy the world? but that is where I keep all my stuff!
