Man I love my wife's homemade stuffing and all this turkey. My favorite time of the year is secretly the leftovers. Plenty for sandwiches. :D You guys piggin' out on leftovers or are you like most everyone else and shun turkey until next November?
One thing about not living at home anymore... I miss out on the big turkey tradition. Thanksgiving turkey in a bird that's usually in the 22-24 pound range, followed by two or three days of turkey sandwiches and then a night of turkey enchiladas.
I just had Kraft Dinner at 10:15 pm. *sigh* :(

you know what you could do...I used to - take a just the turkey breast, put it in a corningware dish, put stove top on top of it and bake it up. You can nuke a couple potatoes and some veggies, with just a couple dirty dishes you got a nice meal and leftovers for one.

I just had leftover turkey and stuffing. :BELLLLLCHHH:
we only had a 14lb bird for 6 adults. wasnt much leftover.
we didn't get any turkey leftovers but we got a honey baked ham a couple days ago and we've been snacking on that. split pea and ham soup tonight.
Inky and Les' guide for single people @ X-Mas lol
I'm all done with Turkey sandwiches on toast with Lettuce and Mayo and two strips of just cooked bacon. Yup til next year...
Dinner for me tonight? Open the last can of chili con carne with beans, dump it in a pan, put in some pre-shredded cheese, heat it up until the cheese melts, move the pan, heat the last two tortillas on the gas burner, scoop the chili cheese mixture into the tortillas, sprinkle on the last of the pre-shredded cheese, and there you have it: really cheesy chili cheese tacos.
chili con carne with beansIs that what is on the can?
I don't understand this. We can understand that carne means meat. We get that con means with. But adding in that pintos means beans might just be a little too much for us.
see, now I never knew that :lloyd:

I LOVE leftovers but did not get any this year :(
That's opposed to chili con carne without beans. Chili is the sauce, the carne is the meat in the sauce. You can get it with or without pinto beans.

will you share with us the gas produced from that too? :p J/K
Actually, it hasn't produced any yet.
Last time I had that, I also added in a pound of ground beef. That gave me some gas. Maybe it's ground beef that makes me fart, and not beans.
It is the combination
one or the other is fine
together Ka-Boom!

But Living alone it shouldn't be an issue.

shouldn't it be chili con carne y frijoles? just a thought.
Chile con carne y frijoles, but since you order them from quantities to say "con", I guess it should be Carne con frijoles y chile.

Man what a relief. I was fearful this thread might be about dating habits in college...
We polished off the leftovers a few days ago. Now we are almost dying for anything not turkey or ham based. Thus, I am gonna brave the elements tonight and grill up some steaks. :finger: Gonna be goooo-ooood after all that bird and ham.

You people are still eating the left overs?
Blimey! I reckon unlike in Blighty where the hospitals are full of drunken casualties over the festive period... in America they'll be full of the food poisoned!!!!

You mean you buy chili con carne sin carne?
As for leftovers, I learned as a child to hate them. My mother would always buy a huge turkey...and we'd have turkey until about a week before Christmas. I called that a reprieve, because guess what the main course was on Christmas? :hmm: Another humongous bird, and 3 more weeks of turkey left-overs. Not that it tasted bad, but you get tired of turkey when you have it so long. I thought the freezer was the worst invention made for at least 14 years... :brush:

But I always thought food was cheap over there... it certainly isn't over here and I can tell you... we don't go a scraping turkey off the bone and freezing it for 3 months!

30% of Americans are obese. You haven't heard that? The press has been, erm, eating that up for weeks... :lol2:

A big bird like that is just smarts and good housekeeping. A weeks' food or more plus soup bones for more meals.

exactly. and given that they go on sale for 69 cents a pound or so around the holidays, it is just plum thrifty. i bought one even though we weren't doing thanksgiving dinner (at least the traditional one) and it's still in the freezer for later use.

I know that Tonks... but the "Land of Blubber" tag sadly is a pretty well used and a wide spread stereotype... Shit sticks... even if it ain't the case.
Tis the way of the world...
30% of women in Britain are over a UK size 14... thats an American 10... that stat is bandied about in the Brit press with a "shock horror" element... Most of the 30% will be no where near the BMI obese category... but its scene as a greadful slur to be within that 30%!
I think we have a lower "fat tolerance" threshold here...
Perhaps your "regularly sized" people are slightly larger than what we class as acceptable/healthy?

Actually no... most of the info concerning America comes from our very own news pundits... the BBC, Channel Four...
Last week Channel 4 did a lovely show concerning "Chubby Chasers" (blokes who find morbidly obese women attractive sexually) it was done in a "shock horror... voyeuristic" way.
British women dined out on it for the whole week... "My God she had to have a trachioptomy!" "How would they do it?... get a pole to prop up the fanny covering stomach?" "How big would their beds have to be?"
And guess where these British fat loving blokes were going to get their rocks off?

If you look back over the last 10 years, or so, you'll notice the CDC has been spinning obesity into a disease instead of a temporary condition. Just look this over (http://www.cdc.gov/od/oc/media/pressrel/r991026.htm) and you'll see the wonderous variety of lunacy that the CDC has started. Personally, I prefer a woman with a little meat on her bones, but the CDC says that women, and men, built like that are unhealthy...and they throw out that Body Mass Index as a bible for their cause. Besides...who said anything about you being a bad person, or unattractive?

The idea that you're unattractive and undesirable is thrown at you every day... TV and media stars are suffering from "lollypop head disorder" and remember the camera adds at least 8 pounds!!!!!!
Clothing isn't designed for your shape... manufacturers skimp on sizings... they increase sizes in a male way... waist band not butt and legs! And the last time anyone did a size survey was in the 1930's... pre-pill, pre-processed food and better diet... women are in general bigger now in different places! shopping for clothes is demoralising.

Ummm...ClaireBear is from the United Kingdom, AKA England, and she's not the one making that judgement. She's only pointing out what may be a cultural difference. Now if you were to post some pics of your ass ( please, for God's sake, don't ;) ), we can make a decision. :D
That being said, the Body Mass Index, which is what the CDC detemines obesity from, is misused due to the fact that it does not take into account your body type. Some Bodybuilders would be classified as obese due to their BMI if that, alone, is taken into account. ;)

I gave up trying to fit the American "ideal" long ago. I looked at my greatgrandmother and my grandmother, then myself. I saw short -- 5'2" and fat. I am built exactly like those 2 women were.
I work out 30 minutes every day. My blood pressure is 112 over 76. Cholesterol is low. Blood sugars are well withing standards. I can rake leaves for a couple of hours without giving out. I feel good, eat well-balanced meals.
And the next time the somewhat overweight, out-of-shape doc tells me I need to lose 20 pounds, I'm going to shoot his ass.

Sounds like you're as healthy as someone half your age. You need to lose 30 pounds, though. :D

Good to see you haven't changed a bit, TRL. Shooting the doc might be better than giving him crayons and sending him to the corner after all. :lloyd:
