:swing: WoooooHooooo!!!!!! GO PACKERS!!!! :D

Ahman Green ran up, down and all over the defending NFC champion Carolina Panthers.

Green ran for two touchdowns and caught a third Monday night to lead the Green Bay Packers to a 24-14 victory over the Panthers, who became the sixth straight team to lose in the Super Bowl and their ensuing season opener.

Unable to stop the run or run the ball - the two main principles that carried them all last season - the Panthers were out of sync from start to finish.

I like to follow players instead of teams as teams are generally... fickle and haphazard and lead to all manner of disappointment.

Kinda like the Chiefs. The looked pretty decent in preseason, looked pretty decent in the 3rd quarter Sunday evening, the rest of the game I don't quite know what the fuck happened.

Texas Rangers in baseball. In football, Raiders (inherited from my mom), Cowboys (inherited from my dad) and Texans (because I went to school with David Carr and got to interview him for a story for the school paper).

In college sports, no matter the sport, it's Fresno State all the way. And considering the total and complete ass-whipping the Bulldogs administered on Kansas State last Saturday in football (game wasn't even as close as the final score of 45-21), methinks it's a good year to follow the 'Dogs.

So WTF happened today? The Bears beat them 21-10, in Lambeau! :P 3 turnovers, including a fumble ran back 95 yards for a TD by Mike Brown (from the 13-3 season fame for his back to back OT interceptions returned for TDs  ) I have to enjoy this, I thought the Bears would've gotten killed (like usual), but I'm glad I was wrong! My brother's been dead silent since we got home (he's a traitor Packer fan), it's total heaven! I've been in bowling meetings downstate all day, so I couldn't see any games at all today, but I heard the radio afterwards expecting to listen to a radio postgame that's usually hilarious in ripping the Bears after a loss (almost a weekly tradition lately :o ), and instead they were ecstatic! :D Woohoohoohoohoohoo!

Oh yeah, my close second favorite team is the Cubs. Coming down to the wire with them, but they're in the driver's seat despite being down 1/2 game in the WC race, if they win out no one can catch them cause they really lead by 2 in the loss column.

that was a head to head battle of 2 of the greatest quarterbacks playing the game (and believe me, it pains me to speak well of peyton daggum manning but it is the truth). what a heck of an offensive game! and when i say that i don't mean to belittle the 2 teams defense...the offensive teams were just out for blood.

If there wasn't enough despair here in Chicago, now we've lost our young QB Rex Grossman (ruptured Achilles, at least 10 months) who has been playing well so far this season, but now we've got Jonathan Quinn (Medicine Man?), whee. The second to last game played in Montreal had 5,400 people in the stands. Tonight's finale is expected to draw 27,000. Fucking voyeristic sheep. These are the same fuckers that sit in traffic honking their horns and then rubberneck the accident when they get up to it. Actually, they were once the best team in baseball. But that was the year the season ended early because of the strike. Sounds like the most down-and-out of down-and-out franchises to me.

chcr

While most of baseball has come back pretty well from the strike, the Expos obviously haven't. Another team hurt bad by it were the White Sox on the south side of town, mostly because they were not only in first place at the time of the strike, but their owner 'the almighty Jerry Reinsdorf' is blamed for causing that strike. After taking out their home games against the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs (they're always sold out and not home crowds for them :P), I bet they don't average 5 figures a game. I think there was one game a couple of years ago that was very poorly scheduled in early April during the day in the middle of the week after a snowstorm hit, I don't even think they got 2000 that day. Doesn't help that they play in a stadium that looks like a toilet bowl from the air. :D

[long baseball rant coming on...]This is what I would really like to see: Outlaw the DH, contract 2 teams entirely (Expos and Devil Rays are the top 2 candidates there), go back to 2 divisions (east/west) so it's even with 7 teams in each division in each league (I don't mind if they'd still take 4 teams for the playoffs from each league, makes the season more exciting), and expand interleague play especially so it's more balanced (we had 6 games against a tough White Sox team that while is lazy plays us tough, while the Cardinals had their big series against woeful Kansas City right after they traded away Beltran, yeah, that was fair  )![/rant]
