View Full Version : Another Canadian death in Afghanistan

You may have heard this already but there was another suicide bomber in Afghanistan with 1 Canadian death and several wounded.

For those not in the know, the Canadian contingent in Afghanistan is at the end of it's first tour and being replaced by fresh troops from Quebec and the Eastern Provinces. This is being done in segments, and one segment was on their way to the Airport to leave for home when a zealot with a bomb strapped to his chest ran out and gave a jeep a goodbye hug.

These troops were effective peace-makers and were leaving for home...now one of them is leaving in a coffin and several others in ambulances and medi-choppers. No thank you for keeping the peace and helping the country work its way towards a constitution and eventual acceptance in the world-community.

Hey...You're Fuckin' Welcome!!!

Got an email from my bro-in-law about this. He's fine, but then again...he's still there until Jan31 and not back to Canada until Feb2. The days go by so slowly until he's in the air and home again. Let's home that no one gives his jeep a goodbye hug. I hope the next one that runs at a Canadian jeep gets shot...guilty or innocent!! Young or old, male or female!

BANG!!! You're welcome! Goodbye

Why bother invading at all? Why not nuke Afghanistan and Iraq? Why not Syria...they're not nice, or North Korea, hell...nuke France too...they're cowards!

Save American lives and nuke the Middle-East, and North Africa, and the UAE, and Middle Africa,

'tis called ye old kneejerk reaction, nobody wants to actually nuke anything (I hope). I just get angry at the waste of lives.

I think in afganistan, take away all the weapons (I know its not possible) and let them fight it out in their own civil war, and then recognize the new goverment.

The last time that happened, Paul, the Taliban took over.

I get agnry too...and worried, mostly for my bro-in-law and his friends in uniformm but ashtraying the middle-east is never going to be the way out. We know it, and they know that we know it and that's why we send troops...to get rid of despots and bring them the gift of peace, then we leave. Why in hell they have to kick us in the head when we're leaving is beyond me. What happened to the cheering in the streets, from only a few short months ago? The happy faces?

Why do we even bother going in? Why not just save the billion$ for an invasion and the multi-billion$'s for the reconstruction when a 125million$ thermonuclear warhead would work just as well?

Perhaps 100,000 copies of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki atomic bomb explosions and some fine screen shots of the latest nuclear tests might do it. Do they even realize that a Nuclear bomb isn't something used to take out a large truck? It's not the name of the company that makes the bomb. Nuclear (tm) bombs.

What happened to the fear of the Nuke?

No, it really is a nice place - the highjackins and shootings keep us on our toes.......having bullets fly at yer head at any given time makes ye feel truly alive - screw war, they should send troops to Jozi for training ;)

And hey - with the number of car park guards on duty you at least have a 50% chance of finding yer car (or something resembling it) where you left it..........and to be sure if they ever sent a South African to the moon there'll be a car guard there to meet him

*who is that beating down my door with a shovel?...........Sarcasm?....Is that you?*

Sounds like Cote des Neiges area, Montreal :) Except we don't have parking guards :) At least you don't have snow (the kind that you can't sniff through a straw ) :)

Um, Bish, you do realize that they share a border with Pakistan, doncha? A much more recent nuclear power. And a helluva lot bigger threat than any western nuke.

Snow....one of the main reasons they'd never host the olympics in Jozi........ever seen 8 people line up & try to schnaaf 400m of white powder up their noses in record time?

Besides, the sound of the starter's gun would likely trigger a turf war of biblical proportions.

And speaking of sports.....they should have Survivor in Jo'burg - give every contestant earings, chains & watches in gold & make them carry a TV - send them through the streets of Hillbrow; the one who makes it to the other side with at least one of the items is the winner.

Dead is Dead ,why be afraid of Nukes.

Yeah...they're also really close to India and Israel who also have nukes. The problem with Pakistan, Israel or India nuking Afghanistan is that they'd get some of the fallout. From over this side of the pond, we don't have to worry about that quite so much, eh? We're more likely to nuke.

That's not the point. The point is that the nuke isn't a deterrant anymore because the terrorist nations know that we're too damn wishy-washy to use it.

Suicide bombers die and go to heaven. They're the only ones that die (on their side). If you get nuked, you die, your wife dies, your kids die, your uncs and aunts, your mum and dad, cousins and that little lady down the street with the cute lower ankles dies as well. That's the diff.

1 shift left for my bro-in-law, then it's a 3-hop trip back to the wastelands of Canada. :)

My condolences to the family of the Brit who died during the Memorial services for the dead Canadian. :(

BTW, anyone have any info on what happens if you nuke the largest deposit of oil in the world? Clean up would be a real bitch, wouldn't it.

Oil wouldn't burn under a nuclear strike...it would vaporize, that is...if the blast successfully penetrated that deep into the earth. I'm thinking more of collapsed space formerly occupied by the oil.

The bigger issue would be the fallout from all the sand not melted, but blown around by the shock-wave. Think sand-storm of monumental proportions!!

any wells on the perifery of the blast-zone which happened to catch fire would be the least of our problems.

Carefully placed above ground blast & side-drilling from Libya would fix that problem
