So far there is relationship, garden and food, let's do travel now. Seems we have Canadians, Brits, Hawaians, Americans, Australians, excuse me if I've missed anywhere, anyone been anywhere else interesting? Suffered from any tropical diseases?

I've never really left Ontario/Quebec area so I must live vicariously through all of you. What's your travel story?

Justintime

South America, Caribbean, France, Germany

got flu in the caribbean

Leslie

Where's the interesting part? How was the bier in Germany? Did you get snubbed by the French? Did you get burnt in the Carribean? Why South America? :D

Spain - wow those spanish men waste no time ;)

France - nude beach ... dammit, it was an old people nude beach

Monaco - took tourist pics with those royal guards :headbang:

Italy - got lost :(

Greece - got more lost :(

other than that, I've only been to Cali (Disneyland), Arizona (Grand Canyon), Vegas (casinos) and Florida (Disneyworld).

Just got back (this week) from a week long trip to Cancun, Mexico. That was a blast... being that many Universities were on spring break didn't hurt either.

The golf was great, the beach was great, the Tequila was great, and the women were great. ;)

A bit further back (nearly three years now) I took a six week tour through England, Ireland, Scotland, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, The Czech Republic, and The Netherlands (Amsterdam.... mmm...)

That was a great six weeks.

I caught something when I got back, but I puked that up and moved on. :D

Glaciers on Croc Hunter? I don't think I've ever seen them do anything remotely related to cold. That would be a wild sight to see.

Its fun and miserable all at once. It rains constantly for nearly 300 days a year on top of the glacier. Wet and cold is the theme of the day... but its really neato when you reach the frost flashover atmosphere line. You can distinctly make out the break between rain, sleet, and snow barriers.

He took a helicopter out to somewhere out there and did a show on it, how they're melting and how it would affect the species there, and if I remember correctly, he had his little shorts on. :D

I liked Steve Irwin (Croc Hunter) when he was first on but I think he's gotten overexposed. It seems every time I turn on Animal Planet, I look just in time to see him almost get bitten by a snake with him saying, "Yore awlright, yore awlright" lol

Ever see the Jeff Corwin Experience? He's a funny guy.

Sadly, I have never been off the East Coast of the US. I was in a plane that landed in Freeport Bahamas but we couldn't get off the plane-we were only there to refuel. That's ok though because the airport was this ugly Pepto-Bismol pink. Didn't look that interesting.

unclehobart
4/18/02, 09:49am
If fact I DID have shorts on that day. It was a recommendation of the trek leader... a bloke who had climbed the glacier 100s of times. It rains so much that long pants would soak up all of the freezing water and make it worse for you in the long run. Besides, climbing and hiking up up up will make you hot enough inside of two or three minutes.

Leslie
4/18/02, 11:18am
Were they teeny weeny khaki shorts? :D

unclehobart

Khaki, affirmative. Just don't say 'teeny weeny' to a guy... that just hits too deep.

Shrink? The twins; yes, over time with prolonged abuse. Big Jim? no. Hes around as is regardless. :D

The other option is to do some human growth hormone/ insulin combos. That would get the best results with almost zero side effects. The only drawback is the $$.

Professur

We do a tour of the maritimes (minus nufie) nearly every summer. And HELL YES it's worth it. I've even seen a bald eagle out there. I dunno about going west, tho. There's not much to see until you hit the rockies. But the costal tour from Quebec city, over Gaspe, round NB, over the Confederation bridge (worth the gas all on it's own) round PEI (stop over at Avonlea and Green Gables) ferry to NS, round Cape Breton, back through NB, pop over the border nip through Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, NY, over to Niagra, back over the border into ontario, stop in TO to hit the scottish butcher's and a quick end run home.

It's worth it.

Nixy

It's my mom's van we're going in. (Me, my mom, my bro and maybe brainsoft are going). I didn't have my licence last time.

Leslie: I would say it's definatly worth it. Where my family lives there is near Gros Morne National Park and I see Moose everytime I go, a few times I have seen Black Bear and it is SO beautiful. There are table mountains that they do hikes on and everything. Also there is a viking settlement somewhere in NFLD that I went to when I was really little but by the looks of the pics it looks like a cool place with lotsa historical stuff.

Leslie
4/21/02, 01:21pm

Never have thought about driving west really, think if we do we'll fly over the prairies and rent a car lol corn/potatoes is boring enough can't fathom wheat.

Should be an experience with 3 boys when we attempt it. Being in a real campground would probably make all the difference, though. :D

Although a lot of people really hate Germany to go on vacation, I actually loved it. It is only a 2hr drive from where I live :D

Besides that, it's fairly easy to speak German when you can speak Dutch. At least you understand 90 percent of what they say.
Germany hasn't got a lot of history left anymore, that's a pity in my opinion. A lot of acient stuff has been destroyed during bombing raids in the WWII....necessary alas!

On the other hand, the advantage is that there are a lot of beautiful new buildings there, especially in Berlin :)

No idea whatsoever. But we are definitely going to need to hit up a few orchid nurseries and get the necessary legalities fulfilled in order to bring them back to the mainland. I know a bunch of people who have done it, you just need these "CITES" permits so you're not transporting endangered orchids off the island.

I'm just trying to get the ceremony & reception finalized first, then comes the buying of the dress, then the rings. I'm sure the honeymoon will be the last of our plans.

A lot of toll bridges only charge the toll one way. They're assuming you'll go back over it the other way later, I guess.

My travelling range is pretty limited. Never been west of just west of Nashville. Been to Florida once (ONCE!!). Been as far up yonder ways as Washington DC. Went on one trip to Appleton WI for a friend's wedding. That about does it so far.

But depending on one's definitions, I have been many interesting places. There are a few little towns around here that are...eccentric, shall we say. On one of these excursions many years ago when I was still the long-haired hippie freak type feller, I was chased out of town by some switchblade toting professional rednecks intent on cutting my hair for me. I found that experience rather interesting...

There are places I would like to see before I die. Most of them are right here in good ol' Dixie of course, but I would really enjoy touring some of the castles of rural England. I want to see Scotland also. Montana intrigues me. The Ballpark at Arlington would be nice. Every winter I swear that I am going to Tahiti next year. :lloyd: Otherwise, I'll probably stay around here mostly. When one lives in their version of paradise, ain't much reason to stray.

Nice facility; a huge improvement over the old Arlington Stadium. The seats are better and so is the sound system. Food's nothing to write home about unless things have changed since 1998. But thanks to Tom Hicks it's no longer The Ballpark in Arlington; now it's Ameriquest Field in Arlington.

At least we can point and laugh at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who were ordered to disclose on their tickets and other literature that they, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, play their home games in Ahaheim and not Los Angeles. The scoreboard at Dodger Stadium still uses "ANA" as their abbreviation for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, instead of "LAA" like Fox Sports West uses.

It is an inside joke.

Inside California.

A state that has as many people in it
as yer whole country does...

and if it were a separate country the worlds ninth largest
economy

and there are some that wish it were, separate

Arte Moreno bought the Anaheim Angels from Disney in 2003. He wants to make a profit, and one of his plans for doing so is to market the Angels to all of Los Angeles. So, he decided to change the team's name from the Anaheim Angels to the Los Angeles Angels. But then the City of Anaheim pointed out that one of the conditions set forth in the stadium lease is that Anaheim remain in the Angel's name, hence the compound fracture of a name, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers (of Los Angeles) aren't too happy about the Angels trying to horn in on the Dodgers' turf, and one way they show it is by using "ANA" instead of "LAA" on the scoreboard that shows other scores from around the league. ANA is how everyone abbreviated "Anaheim" last year, when the Angels were still known as the Anaheim Angels.

How much do tolls cost elsewhere? They doubled all our tolls last year, it now costs $4.90 one way from Indiana to Wisconsin unless you dare to go downtown.
